OMB Pathways Internship

The Health Division at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is soon looking for applicants qualified to perform as student health budget specialists, in support of the President, the Director of OMB, and other OMB officials, through the Pathways Internship Program. The Pathways Internship Program is designed to attract students enrolled in educational institutions with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school. This program exposes students to jobs in the Federal civil service by providing meaningful development work. Candidates must be currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program based in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.

OMB is ideally looking for candidates with a background or an interest in public policy or health care. Students studying public administration, public policy, and/or public health are particularly encouraged to apply. Strong organizational skills, communication (oral and written) skills, analytical ability, and dependability are a must. The Health Division is committed to creating a multicultural and supportive work environment and strongly encourages applications from candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the Division.

This is a year-round internship and the intent of the position is that the student is able to work at least 640 hours while still in school in order to be eligible for non-competitive conversion into a Federal career or career-conditional position. Internships will be paid and interns should expect to commit up to approximately 30 hours weekly while school is in session and can work up to a full-time basis during school breaks. U.S. Citizenship is required.

OMB serves the President of the United States in developing a Budget and legislative program, in overseeing execution of enacted legislation, and in implementing the Administration’s vision across the Executive Branch. The Health Division is responsible for the review of policy, budget, legislative, and management issues related to Medicare, Medicaid, private health insurance market reforms, and a variety of public health and health research programs that are mainly operated under the Department of Health and Human Services.  The Health Division currently manages more than one-fourth of the Federal budget and engages in analysis, planning, and policy formulation to improve programmatic quality, efficiency, and financial management. Please see the attached document for further information on OMB and the Health Division.
