Research/Development Internships

Interns in this area can expect to conduct, collect, and analyze research in policy areas to distribute to the public. Institutions will distribute the information through public meetings and events, broadcast media and social media, publications in print and online, and through other forms of outreach. The goal of these institutions is to increase the dialogue and education surrounding their focus issues.

American Enterprise Institute-Public Opinion Studies (Non-Profit, Research/Development)

The American Enterprise Institute is a community of scholars and supporters committed to expanding liberty, increasing individual opportunity and strengthening free enterprise. AEI pursues these unchanging ideals through independent thinking, open debate, reasoned argument, facts and the highest standards of research and exposition. AEI is a private, nonpartisan, not-for-profit institution dedicated to research and education on issues of government, politics, economics and social welfare. AEI’s purpose is to serve leaders and the public through research and education on the most important issues of the day.

Congressional Research Service (Federal Government, Research/Development)

The Congressional Research Service (CRS) provides policy and legal analysis to members of the United States Congress, regardless of party affiliation. The CRS is committed to ensuring that committees and members of Congress always have access to the nation’s best thinking. Through the CRS’s three internship programs (Law Clerk, Student Diversity, and Volunteer), interns can learn about the legislative process and get experience writing analytical reports and memoranda. Interns often work with professional staff to research policy-related issues and questions.

LegiStorm LLC is a non-partisan, for-profit company that researches, verifies and publishes information about Members of Congress and congressional staff. Since 2006, LegiStorm has rapidly grown from the only provider of congressional salary data to offering a fully integrated Web-based platform for government affairs professionals who need to accurately identify congressional staff, monitor activity on Capitol Hill, and engage with Members and staff.

OSA visits elected officials, inform governments about optics and photonics by providing technical expertise, and reach out to decision makers so they understand why science - and optics in particular - is an integral part of society.

START- National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (Research/Development)

The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism—better known as START—is a university-based research and education center comprised of an international network of scholars committed to the scientific study of the causes and human consequences of terrorism in the United States and around the world. START is committed to the widespread dissemination of its research findings not only to homeland security professionals through tailored research, education and training efforts, but also to students of all levels and to the general public.
